The Spring Oven BBC One

It has been nearly a month since we featured on the BBC One show ‘The Customer is Always Right’, if you don’t know what we are talking about, our episode (S2 E1) is still available to watch on BBC iPlayer until Wednesday 20th May 2020. You can watch it here:

On May 20th 2020, ‘The Customer is Always Right’ came back onto our televisions for a second series. In each episode three entrepreneurs go head to head and submit their products to be tested and reviewed by customers. The show recaps a bit of the backstory of each business before you hop back to the studio and see the reaction of each business owner as they watch the customers test their products via pre-recorded videos.

The Spring Oven featured alongside a vibrating makeup remover and specialised bike mirror all competing to win the Customer is Always Right light bulb prize. Nearly all of the customers seemed to really enjoy baking with the Spring Oven, maybe it was mostly the excitement of getting to bake some bread although the baking results really showed for themselves. By the end of the show, the Patrick (the designer of the Spring Oven) took home the first place price receiving 39 points in the votes out of a possible 50!

Successful first bread bake

Many of the customers were not regular bakers but still managed to get great results, and in the mean time, really put the product through its paces. A few customers compared the performance of a bread baked within the Spring Oven to a bread baked with out it. The results were clear, the breads baked without the Spring Oven hadn’t risen as well, had a very tough darkened crust, compared to the light crisp of the Spring Oven’s bread. Other customers, Beth and Jamaal performed a blind taste test and could also see the clear improvement of the Spring Oven’s baking.

It has been a challenging time for the UK amidst the Covid-19 crisis and we have all experienced the complications of adjusting to self-isolation, social distancing rules and the harrowing news stories of the disease. One of the ways we have adapted as a country is to fire up our ovens and try out as many baking recipes as we can get our hands on. Maybe from all the years of watching the Great British Bake Off, people finally now how the time to have a go themselves, if of course they made it to the supermarket before the flour shelf emptied.

We were unprepared for what followed, as the show aired on BBC One 20th April 2020 at 3:45pm, by 6pm that evening we had already received hundreds of orders from customers all over the country.

Orders ready to send the first day after our BBC debut

Almost exactly a year ago now we decided to really go big, we made a large order from our pottery in Portugal of new stock to really set us up as a product that could one day be seen as a regular in shops around the country and beyond. It has been a challenging year as a small company but since airing on BBC One sales continued to flood in and we have sold out in two of our lines within two weeks, something we expected to take years.

Currently (15/05/20) we still have stock in two of our lines the White Glazed Spring Oven and the Honey Glazed Spring Oven, and we are looking to get more stock in as soon as we can.

Thank you to everyone who has ordered over the last few weeks, thank you for bearing with us and giving us time to work out all your deliveries while keeping to social distancing guidelines, and thank you to all those who have followed our story so far!

If you have a Spring Oven and are yet to give us a review on TrustPilot we would love to hear from you.
